It’s that time… The tassels have been switched over, the caps have been thrown, and the realization has set in. You’re a graduate, BUT now what?!

Well, for most graduation marks the beginning of a new, exciting but scary adventure. With the pressure to find a job so soon after graduation, it is important to plan ahead. Find my top 5 tips below for getting hired immediately upon graduation!

Intern, intern, intern

Yes, you’ve heard it before, but internships should be number one on your list of priorities. They showcase responsibility, balance, experience, and dedication. Related experience will determine you getting the job over someone else.

Utilize your time as an undergrad to meet as many people as possible. These are the people that will root for you and put you in contact with future employers! Stay in touch, be professional, and always smile!

Utilize Social Media

Social media plays a pivotal role in today’s hiring process. Create an account on LinkedIn, start a career-based blog, or communicate (professionally) through Twitter.

Pick up the phone

Our generation has become so accustomed to hiding behind their computer screens. Set yourself apart! Pick up the phone and call a company or write a handwritten note. If you’re nervous, just remember they have no idea who you are! So what’s to be scared of? Small strides make all the difference.

Get a head start

Lastly, do not just expect a job to appear out of thin air. Get a head start on the competition and contact future employers ahead of time. Even if it’s a bit too soon, they will still keep your resume on file. Follow up with an e-mail and stay relevant. This will show your persistence and interest in the company all while getting them to remember your name.
